When it comes to bike building and culture, northern Californians tend to do things a little quieter than their cousins to the south. But anyone who doubts their passion clearly wasn’t at the Redwood Rumble this past weekend.
Basket Case Magazine began last year when 3 friends decided to put together a small DIY/punk-rock magazine about the NorCal chopper scene. Inspired by the rich history of clubs, bikes and builders up north, they’ve since published 5 issues and tapped into a scene that’s been idling in the shadows for a while.
This year they’ve put together a show to bring the community together and have a party. It started with a short run through the mountains and along the ocean that wound up at the Portugese Hall in Santa Cruz with bands, vendors, raffles and bike-judging.
Compared to the huge SoCal chopper shows like Born Free and Chopperfest, this was a more intimate and super-chill event but with a little of the NorCal edge – more club dudes and rider-built bikes, less models and selfies.
We really hope this becomes an annual event. Enjoy the photos.
