For 49 years go-fast daredevils have been hammering around the 1/10th mile dirt oval at Costa Mesa speedway. This past Thursday the Born Free motorcycle show, now in it’s 9th year, brought it’s brand of chopper nostalgia for a pre-show party under the historic floodlights.
Early in the afternoon the riders began to arrive and set up in the pits. The organizers welcomed a great variety of bikes which really made for some interesting racing and an eclectic pit area.

Tank shift racing on pre-WWII bikes got pretty hot.
The short track and quick races made for almost non-stop and varied entertainment. On top of that there was a live band and all of the Born Free invited builder bikes on display. Here’s hoping this becomes a Born Free tradition.
